Why Composite Video Still Looks Good on the Right Display
It's not about resolution — it's about what the signal was designed for.
Composite video gets a bad reputation because people evaluate it on displays it was never designed for. On a CRT, or through a good upscaler that understands the signal, composite can look genuinely great for the era of games it was built to display.
The trick is filtering. A cheap scaler will smear the signal into a blurry mess. A good one — like the ones we cover in our upscaler guides — separates luma and chroma properly before scaling, which is where most of the perceived 'softness' actually comes from.
